Industrial Applications Of Cryogenic Gases

By Douglas Thompson

Technology has come up with very many ways aimed at ensuring that processes are effective. Fluids have been used for storage and other production purposes for a very long time. Cryogenic gases have the property of remaining in their liquid states at temperatures which are extremely low. This is a property that is not common to a majority of other such fluids. Due to this feature, they have received a comprehensive application in many industries all over the world. Below are a couple of ways that they can be used.

One of their uses is in the transportation of foods. Moving massive amounts of foods into distances places requires that the foods are frozen during the process. Using other alternatives is expensive and fails at times. However, when these products are used, they enable this work. It ensures that they remain fresh and are not contaminated as no bacteria can thrive in those temperatures.

Storage of rare blood types is done using these gases. The world has specific types of blood that are considered rare and which if donated is safeguarded highly to serve those that might need them in the future. Using systems such as freezers might be expensive in that power loses may occur from time to time, and this leads to contamination and hence spoilage.

Entertainment industry has also adopted the use of these products. They apply the products in the form of a fog in nightclubs which creates a fog-like atmosphere which also creates a chilling effect. It is effective and safe as it delivers the desired atmosphere and does not affect the health of the individuals present.

Recycling plants also make use of these gases. During the recycling process, the items have to be broken down into their original states so that they can be molded all over again. Application of processes such as heating and melting are expensive and time-consuming. Application of these products, however, is different in that they only freeze the materials and allows the breaking down to pieces which will be remolded.

Maintenance functions in manufacturing plants apply the items. Keeping machines and tools useful in a manufacturing plant is an activity that consumes a lot of resources and time. This is solved by an application of Cryogenic products. Cooling is achieved on the times when they are applied on the tips and other parts. Sharpening is also done when the same is done on the pieces of equipment saving time and resources.

Rockets have also applied the products as fuels. Moving into space requires that the machine carries a relatively small weight and they achieve this when the fuels from hydrogen, methane are used. This has been in use since the first time that they were launched into orbit. Over time, the area has improved, and new and improved forms of the same have been developed.

Finally, the products also aid in the transmission of electricity in huge cities. Moving power across cities that are overcrowded is not simple. Accidents are likely to happen in the course if they apply overhead system. But there is still a problem when underground systems are used. To reduce the heating and resistance created by underground cables, the gases are used and thus uninterrupted power transmission.
