Helping Your Child With Beginning Readers For Kindergarten Activities

By Rebecca King

If you want your child to love to read, then you have to enjoy reading yourself. There are quite a few things that you can do to get them to enjoy books. Start by sharing your excitement about reading, read for enjoyment but use beginning readers for kindergarten books when getting your child involved.

Phonics is an enormous part of being able to read and later write. Without the basic phonics children have problems sounding out words. Without phonics many children will leave out the vowels that belong in words. One great way to get children interested in reading is to purchase easy books along with pictures.

Children who are enrolled in kindergarten are still interested in putting words along with pictures. They need the visual to understand what is going on in the book. They also can ask questions to get a better understanding of what might be occurring as well.

You can do these things to help your little ones reading. Read a story with your child and encourage him or her to create his or her own version of the story. You can change the story so it occurs in different places or with characters you know.

Giving children incentives for reading is also a great way to get young people reading. Children enjoy receiving stickers being recognized for their great reading. You can even promise to purchase them a new book. If they reach reading so many books within a month, you might decide to take them somewhere special.

You can acquire wisdom from writers who do not mind sharing their experiences as an author. Share your findings and experience with a group of children especially your child. If you know a childrens author, ask him or her if they would be willing to speak, or read at your childs school. Young people love to see pictures of a person on the book they know.

Listening to an audio book is a great way to enjoy stories and acquire information. There will be times when you cannot read because of other activities that you are engaged in, but you can still enjoy listening. Most information obtained from audio books will stay with you just as if you were reading a book. Encourage your child to listen to audio books in the car when you are traveling.

The most important thing is to find a book that is engaging to a young reader. Find a book that a child can relate to and one that has tons of pictures. In the beginning before a child can actually read, allow them to make up their own stories about the pictures in books. You will be amazed at how their little minds work. Most parents and teachers find that children can tell a long story just by looking at a few pictures and usually the story they tell correlates back with something that has been going on or that they want to happen in their own life.
