Fresh Wind Turbine Safety Rules For Workers

By Brenda Meyer

Working at a plant with turbines means that you are exposed to such challenges as electric hazard, arch flash, respiratory protection, and confined space, among others. The heights and movement of turbines makes the area dangerous and risky. The wind turbine safety rules are designed to create awareness of the dangers lurking and forestall them. They must be observed by all workers and visitors to the plant.

The law requires first aid personnel to always be stationed at the site. This is especially important when any work is being carried out on the turbines. In fact, all people working in such an environment should be trained on first aid so that they do not have to rely on specialists. They should have the right equipment to deal with falls, electric shocks and rescues in order to reduce fatalities in case of a fall.

The safety levels of all installations at the plant must be checked on regular basis. This should be handled by professionals who understand wiring, heights and moving areas alongside the dangers they pose. Check whether elements like the weather have weakened your pillars. Whenever you are carrying out a maintenance procedure, ensure that the area and all operations taking place are secured.

All visitors and workers must have protective gear whenever they are on site. Some of the dangers such safety gear prevents include falling objects or the worker falling from the heights. It must be remembered that turbines generate electricity. The possibility of electrocution is therefore real. Some of the equipment to provide include arrest lanyards, helmets, gloves, footwear and vests, among others.

Equipment within the plant should be tested regularly to ensure that they are safe for use. You begin by purchasing high quality accessories that do not expose users to dangers like injuries. All installations on site including ladders, electric hoists, pulleys, elevators and fall arrest protection systems, among others need regular monitoring to keep their users protected. Failures in their use could lead to fatal accidents.

Monitor the weather actively. The height of turbines makes the vulnerable to adverse weather like lightening. Strong winds are also devastating and likely to cause damage, injuries and falls to workers during maintenance. The weather should be a major factor whenever you are installing, servicing or maintaining the turbines to avoid falling or danger in the process.

The installations at the plant must be maintained to avoid exposing the workers and people within the area to danger. If the turbines are faulty, they will fall on workers or cause them to fall. Rusty areas and equipment also pose a similar danger. Routine maintenance should not wait until damage has occurred.

The health of employees and workers within the plant requires regular monitoring. Only the strong and healthy should have the chance to work on turbines. The weak and sick workers face the danger of falling off heights which could be fatal. If a worker has phobia for enclosed spaces or heights, he should be exempted from working in this area. Make sure that workers have enough rest and are not under influence to avoid mistakes that would lead to fatal falls.
