An Overview Of Cross Platform Solutions

By Betty Roberts

The world today has witnessed so many changes in the way things are being done. This has mainly been attributed to the numerous technological advancements being experienced the world over. As a result, this has seen numerous businesses taking to the cross platform solutions as a way to make services offered available to their clients on phone.

There are numerous reasons why many businesses have abandoned their earlier ways of carrying out business. One of the greatest reasons is because the platform has given them the power to provide their clients with products in their hands. In addition to this, it has enabled businesses to be able to market themselves; thus, exposing themselves to a much wider market.

There are a number of tools that are useful in the creation and development of this kind of software. One of the tools used is the phone-gap. This comprises of an open source framework that software developers use to come up with applications for platforms of their liking. IPhone, Symbian and Palm are just some of the platforms that these apps are created for.

The second easy to use framework is known as the MoSync. This is used to develop apps of a more diverse nature. The reason why it is important is because it supports various technologies such as JavaScript, Python, Ruby as well as C and C++ programming languages. Some of the other most commonly used technologies used in the development of apps include the Xamarin and Rho-Mobile tools.

Users, who have embraced the use of this type of technology, have a few reasons to smile. Work has been made a lot easier. It provides a faster and effective way of deploying as well as releasing of new and improved versions of apps.

Developers also get an opportunity to create one source code. This gives them the power to control, develop, and monitor the operations of that app. This, in turn, saves the developer a lot of hustle and time that would have been put into writing different source codes since he or she can re-utilize an already written source code.

It is also cheaper way since the software created can be able to operate on any kind of device. Creating cross platform software is affordable since the cost is reduced. The effort needed is also less and so is the time required. There are also no maintenance costs that are incurred since it only involves the management of only a single app.

As much as it is beneficial to those who use it, it however does not lack limitations. One of these limitations is that the transition is not as smooth as a user may expect it to be. Each phone has its own layout or the way it operates things, therefore, adding an external app may cause some problems; thus, denying the user a smooth means of operation. The second limitation may arise when integrating the app. This might be a difficult task to carry out since as earlier stated, the phone settings are different and function in a different manner. Fortunately, developers are working to alleviate such hindrances.
